In the program, students will learn how to work with infants and toddlers through a variety of hands-on course material. The program covers advanced child growth and development; advanced health, safety and nutrition; and skills for interacting with families and the community at large.
*Workplace placement must be completed in British Columbia
Academic Admission Requirements
- Proof of high school graduation or equivalent (General Education Development or BC Adult Basic Education)
OR
- Mature student status (19 years of age upon starting classes)
AND
- Proof of English Language proficiency
- Completion of a Basic Early Childhood Education program from an accredited college
*Note: Transcripts from an institution outside of Canada must be verified by an international education credential evaluation service, such as WES or ICES.
Administrative Requirements for Admissions
- Interview with the campus director, program coordinator, or designate
- Current resume (record of work history)
- Three character references
Practicum, Clinical Placement or Preceptorship Requirements
- Criminal record check (in accordance with the Criminal Records Review Act)
- Up-to-date immunization report (form provided by college)
Note: The following courses require a criminal record check and an immunization report before the first day.
- ECE 4020: Foundations of Working with Infants and Toddlers
- ECE 4041: Infant and Toddler Practicum
The Early Childhood Education Post Basic (Infant/Toddler Specialization) program is offered in-class format, at the Burnaby, Abbotsford, Coquitlam and Surrey campuses.
Individuals who have successfully completed early childhood training through a recognized educational institution in British Columbia may apply to the BC Early Childhood Educator Registry for certification as a Special Needs Educator (SNE). The program is offered as an in-person program.
